Prof Alain GregoireClinician

Biography

Dr Alain Gregoire is Honorary President of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA), a UK charity and network of over 160 organisations dedicated to ensuring families affected by perinatal mental illness have access to high-quality care. He is a Consultant Specialist Perinatal Psychiatrist of over 30 years' standing and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Southampton, having trained at the Institute of Psychiatry and Maudsley Hospital in London. He was the founding Chair of the MMHA, stepping down in October 2020, and founded the Global Alliance for Maternal Mental Health. He was a member of the NICE Guideline Development Group for Antenatal and Postnatal Mental Health, and has worked closely with UK ministers across successive governments to develop perinatal mental health policy. He is known for arguing that all women and families in the UK should have equitable access to specialist perinatal mental health services, and the MMHA under his leadership campaigned for over £1bn in new government funding for those services.
