Biography
Luke Turcotte is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. His research focuses on the development and application of health information systems to support clinical decision-making and improve the quality of care for older adults with complex health conditions across hospital, long-term care, and community-based settings. He completed an MSc in Health Studies and Gerontology and a PhD in Aging, Health and Wellbeing at the University of Waterloo, and subsequently held a Health System Impact Fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research embedded at the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), followed by roles as Senior Researcher and Senior Methodologist at CIHI. He is an Associate Fellow with interRAI, an international not-for-profit that develops comprehensive health assessment systems for vulnerable populations, and holds an adjunct appointment at the University of Waterloo. His current CIHR-funded work argues that hospital discharge planning tools focus too narrowly on medical diagnoses and should incorporate social determinants of health and caregiver well-being to reduce unplanned readmissions among frail older adults.
