Biography

Dr Steven J. Fleischman, MD, MBA, FACOG, is the immediate past president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), having served as its 76th president from May 2025. He is an obstetrician-gynaecologist in private practice as managing partner of Sound Obstetrics and Gynecology, and serves as associate chief of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Yale New Haven Hospital. He is also an associate clinical professor in the department of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences at Yale University School of Medicine, where he is involved in resident and medical student education. He trained at Albany Medical College and completed his residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, and in 2021 received an MBA from Southern Connecticut State University. During his presidency he called publicly for the defence of reproductive rights and abortion access, framing this as a core professional responsibility of ob-gyns.
