Who Dr Charlotte Blease is

Dr Charlotte Blease is a philosopher and interdisciplinary researcher in digital health, holding the position of Associate Professor (Docent) at the Participatory eHealth and Health Data Research Group, Department of Women's and Children's Health, Uppsala University, Sweden. She is also a Research Affiliate at the Division of Digital Psychiatry, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, where she spent five years as a researcher, first as a Fulbright Scholar and then as a Keane Scholar. Her research focuses on the ethics of artificial intelligence in healthcare, patient access to digital health records, patient–clinician communication, and the future of medical professionalism. She has published more than 160 articles in peer-reviewed journals and books, and is the author of Dr Bot: Why Doctors Can Fail Us – and How AI Could Save Lives (Yale University Press, 2025). She is a 2012 winner of the BBC and Arts and Humanities Research Council's New Generation Thinkers competition and has been quoted in UK press including Sky News, The Independent, and The Guardian on topics including GP adoption of generative AI and patient online record access.
