Who Dr Claire Beynon is

Dr Claire Beynon was appointed Executive Director of Public Health for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board in December 2023, succeeding Fiona Kinghorn on her retirement. She has worked in the NHS for more than fifteen years in senior roles across the UK, and previously served as Deputy Director of Public Health at the same health board. She holds a Master's in Public Health and an MSc in Sport and Exercise Science from Cardiff University, where she is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer. She has published peer-reviewed research on childhood obesity and leads the health board's public health and preventative agenda across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Her first annual report as Director of Public Health called for urgent action on early years health, citing rising obesity rates, poverty, and declining vaccination rates, and she has also spoken publicly on women's health, including the board's menopause hub programme.
