Who Deborah Alsina is

Deborah Alsina MBE has been Chief Executive of Arthritis UK (formerly Versus Arthritis) since March 2022, leading the UK's largest arthritis charity, which funds research, delivers support services, trains healthcare professionals, and campaigns for policy change. She brought more than 30 years of voluntary sector experience to the role, spanning organisations working on refugee and human rights issues, cancer, and older people's causes. Before joining the charity she served as Chief Executive of Independent Age, and prior to that spent over ten years as Chief Executive of Bowel Cancer UK, where she led its merger with Beating Bowel Cancer in 2018. She has been a prominent public voice calling for NHS waiting lists for orthopaedic and joint replacement surgery to be reduced, and for arthritis to be recognised as a national public health priority. She led the charity's rebrand from Versus Arthritis to Arthritis UK in October 2025 following community consultation. She was awarded an MBE in 2016 for services to bowel cancer patients.
