Biography

Dr Greg Mewett is a specialist palliative care physician based at Ballarat Health Services and the Grampians Regional Palliative Care Team in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. He was a GP in Bendigo, Central Victoria for 22 years before leaving general practice in 2004 to retrain as a palliative care physician in Melbourne, completing his Fellowship in 2007. He holds qualifications of MBBS, FRACGP, FAChPM, DRCOG, Postgraduate Diploma in Palliative Medicine, and Graduate Certificate in Clinical Teaching. He was a member of the Victorian State Government's Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Implementation Taskforce, which oversaw the introduction of VAD legislation in Victoria, and describes himself as a 'conscientious provider' of VAD to eligible patients alongside his specialist palliative care practice. He has supported at least 30 patients through a voluntary assisted death and has a particular interest in clinical ethics as related to end-of-life care and decision-making. He gave oral evidence to the UK Parliament's Public Bill Committee on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill in January 2025 and has written opinion pieces in Scottish press on the subject of assisted dying.
