Who Dr Gregory Saathoff is

Dr Gregory Saathoff is a forensic psychiatrist and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where he is also the founding executive director of the Critical Incident Analysis Group (CIAG). Since 1996 he has served as the FBI's Conflict Resolution Specialist and is the chief psychiatric consultant for the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Units and Crisis Negotiation Unit. He completed his medical degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia and his psychiatry residency at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He has published widely in behavioural sciences and psychiatry, including on extremist violence, criminal poisoning, psychopharmacology, and psychological challenges related to bioterrorism. He is known for his expert witness work in high-profile criminal trials and for leading the UVA Health Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management Program, recognised as a model for best practice by the American Hospital Association and FBI.
