Who Harveer Dev is

Harveer Dev is a Group Leader and Academic Urologist at the Early Cancer Institute, University of Cambridge, leading the Dev Group on early, potentially lethal prostate cancer. He graduated with a BA(Hons) in Natural Sciences and an MB BChir from the University of Cambridge, completed basic surgical training at Addenbrooke's Hospital, and undertook a Wellcome Trust-funded PhD in Biochemistry at the Gurdon Institute. During his doctoral research he discovered the Shieldin complex, a critical mediator of DNA double-strand break repair, and characterised its role in treatment resistance in BRCA1-mutant cancers. His group works across epigenetics, methylation-based liquid biopsies, and DNA repair-targeted therapies, with a focus on distinguishing indolent from aggressive early prostate cancer. He co-led the CANCAP03 window-of-opportunity clinical trial, whose findings on pre-surgical targeted therapy were published in Clinical Cancer Research in 2025. He is a Prostate Cancer Foundation Young Investigator (2021) and Clinical Lecturer in early cancer detection at the University of Cambridge.
