Who Dr Jamilla Hussain is

Dr Jamilla Hussain is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine and Senior Research Fellow at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Bradford Institute for Health Research, having taken up the post in April 2022. She is also an NIHR Advanced Fellow and holds an affiliate staff profile at Hull York Medical School. She graduated from the University of Manchester and completed higher specialist training through an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship (MSc), NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship (PhD) and NIHR Clinical Lectureship. Her research focuses on addressing inequalities at the end of life related to race, ethnicity, poverty and gender, with a particular interest in marginalised and minority ethnic communities. She is publicly known for arguing that investment in equitable palliative care is an essential prerequisite to any assisted dying legislation, and for conducting community-led research such as the 'Uncovering' project exploring Pakistani women's experiences of end-of-life care.
