Who Dr Julie Gralow is

Dr Julie R. Gralow, MD, FACP, FASCO, is the Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), a role she has held since February 2021. She is a breast medical oncologist and Professor (emeritus) of Medical Oncology and Global Health at the University of Washington School of Medicine, where she directed the Breast Medical Oncology programme for more than 25 years. Prior to joining ASCO full-time, she was the Jill Bennett Endowed Professor of Breast Cancer at the University of Washington and Director of Breast Medical Oncology at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. In her role as ASCO CMO, she directly oversees ASCO's Center for Research and Analytics, Policy and Advocacy Department, Care Delivery Department, and Center for Global Impact, and serves as a public spokesperson for ASCO. She is known for commenting on major oncology trial results with relevance to UK health policy, including the NHS-Galleri multi-cancer early detection trial presented at ASCO in 2026. She founded the Women's Empowerment Cancer Advocacy Network (WE CAN) to support cancer advocacy in low- and middle-income countries, and received the ASCO Humanitarian Award in 2018 for that work.
