Biography

Kate Burt (full name Katherine Victoria Burt) has served as Chief Executive of The Haemophilia Society since 5 October 2020. The Haemophilia Society is the only UK-wide charity for all those affected by a genetic bleeding disorder, campaigning for access to treatment and safe care for around 36,000 people living with a bleeding disorder in the UK. Before joining the Society, Burt was an executive director at Leonard Cheshire, a global disability charity, leading marketing and fundraising, and previously served as chief executive of British Rowing from 2012 to 2014. She has been a prominent public voice on the contaminated blood scandal, giving two written statements to the Infected Blood Inquiry and calling for swift compensation for those infected, bereaved, and damaged as a result of NHS blood products contaminated with HIV and hepatitis viruses in the 1970s and 1980s. Burt has also met directly with Cabinet Office officials and ministers to press for adequate compensation tariffs and government funding to sustain the Society's advocacy work.
