Biography

Dr Katie Bramall-Stainer is a practising GP and held office as chair of the BMA's GP Committee for England (GPC England) from August 2023 until July 2026, when she chose not to stand for re-election at the end of her three-year term. She remains GPC UK chair until October 2026. Qualifying from UCL in 2003, she joined the BMA GP Committee in 2007 and served as chief executive of Cambridgeshire LMC from 2019, having previously been medical director for six London LMCs from 2016. During her tenure as GPC England chair she led two rounds of GP collective action, argued that successive contract impositions represented underinvestment in general practice, and in 2025 secured an agreed contract reform with an £889m funding uplift. In 2019, she and a colleague publicly called out sexism and sexual harassment within the BMA, leading to an independent inquiry by Daphne Romney KC and a programme of cultural reform.
