Biography

Professor Michelle Miller is Dean (Partnerships and Practice) in the College of Health and Enablement at Flinders University, Adelaide, South Australia. She is an academic with prior experience across many facets of dietetic practice, whose key practice and research focus has been the nutritional rehabilitation of vulnerable groups. She leads the Flinders Aged Care Food and Nutrition team, which has worked for over a decade on malnutrition and food service quality in residential aged care. Her team developed the Flinders Aged Care food service satisfaction questionnaires — a toolkit now being rolled out nationally across Australia's aged care sector. She has argued publicly that the rate of malnutrition in residential aged care has been persistently high for decades, with recent research suggesting 30–50% of residents are affected. Her research areas include healthy ageing, clinical nutrition in rehabilitation and aged care settings, and the validity of nutrition screening instruments.
