Who Prabhakar Rajan is
Professor Prabhakar Rajan holds the Chair of Urology and Robotic Surgery at the Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London — the first professorial chair in urology at Barts for approximately 30 years — to which he was promoted in 2023. He is also a Consultant Urologist at Barts Health and University College London Hospitals NHS Trusts, where he serves as Clinical Lead for the uro-oncology service. He qualified in medicine from the University of Cambridge in 2000, completed a PhD in prostate cancer genetics at Newcastle University funded by a Medical Research Council Clinical Research Training Fellowship (2005), and undertook a specialist fellowship in robotic prostate cancer surgery at the Karolinska Institutet and University Hospital, Stockholm. His research spans laboratory investigation of alternative pre-mRNA splicing in prostate cancer, clinical trials to reduce treatment side-effects in prostate and testicular cancers, and healthcare-disparity studies in cancer outcomes across ethnic groups. He has been quoted in UK press on prostate cancer awareness, screening policy, and the importance of men having informed conversations with their doctors about cancer risk.
