Biography
Dr Pramudie Gunaratne is the CEO and a co-founder of the Australian Society of Psychiatrists (ASoP), a member-based, not-for-profit organisation committed to advancing high-quality mental health care across Australia. She is a neuropsychiatrist, a Research Fellow at the Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN) at the University of New South Wales, and co-founder of Seriph Clinics, a specialist private service for people with complex neuropsychiatric disorders. She holds a double degree in Medicine and International Relations from UNSW, a Master in Medicine (Psychiatry) from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she was awarded the University of London 150th Anniversary Prize for Academic Achievement. She has previously served as a consultant to the Brain Health Unit at the World Health Organization in Geneva, focusing on dementia research and diagnostics in low- and middle-income countries, and as registrar to the Chief Psychiatrist in the New South Wales Ministry of Health. She is known for her public advocacy on psychiatry workforce shortages in Australia's public mental health system and received the Australian Medical Association's 2025 Women in Medical Leadership Award for this work.
