Rhian Gabe is Professor of Clinical Trials and Biostatistics and Director of Barts Clinical Trials Unit at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health, Queen Mary University of London. She holds an academic background in mathematics (University of Liverpool), epidemiology (University of Cambridge), and a PhD focused on breast cancer screening evaluation (Queen Mary University of London). She has worked in clinical trials research for approximately 30 years, beginning at the MRC Cancer Trials Office, Cambridge in 1996, and subsequently at the MRC Clinical Trials Unit, London and York Trials Unit. Her principal research interests are cancer screening, early detection, and trial design, with major roles including co-lead of the £42 million TRANSFORM prostate cancer screening trial funded by Prostate Cancer UK and NIHR. She has also chaired the NCRI Screening Subgroup and is a named expert commentator on cancer screening policy cited by the Science Media Centre.
