Who Dr Yvan Hutin is
Dr Yvan J-F. Hutin is a medical epidemiologist who served as Director of the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Department at WHO Headquarters until May 2026, when he took up the role of WHO Representative to India. With over 30 years of international public health experience, he holds an MD in hepato-gastroenterology from France, an MSc in Clinical Tropical Medicine from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and a PhD from the Swiss Tropical Institute. He previously served with the Epidemic Intelligence Service of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and held roles in Burkina Faso, Uganda, Sweden's European CDC, and WHO's Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office. In his AMR directorship he consistently argued that equitable access to prevention, diagnostics, and appropriate treatment is central to combating drug-resistant infections, and he co-authored more than 140 peer-reviewed publications.
