Biography

Dr Adrian Boyle is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he has held a consultant post since 2005 and has served as both lead educator and lead clinician in the department. He qualified as a doctor in 1994 from the University of Southampton and subsequently acquired a Masters in Epidemiology and a Doctorate from the University of Cambridge. He served as President of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) from October 2022 until September 2025, having previously been Vice President for Policy since 2019 and chair of the Quality Committee. He was a key author of the RCEM's November 2021 report 'Crowding and its Consequences', which found at least 4,519 excess deaths linked to A&E crowding and extended stays in England in 2020–21. He is widely quoted in the UK press on A&E waiting times, emergency department crowding, workforce shortages, and the impact of inadequate social care on hospital capacity.
