Who Hannah Devlin is
Hannah Devlin is science correspondent for The Guardian, having previously served as science editor of The Times. She holds a PhD in biomedical imaging from the University of Oxford and presents The Guardian's Science Weekly podcast. Her reporting covers genetics, public health, neuroscience, and medical devices, with a strong track record of health investigative journalism. In 2018 she received the Association of British Science Writers award for best investigative journalism for her coverage of vaginal mesh implant harms. In 2025 she was part of the Guardian and Hope not Hate team that won the British Journalism Awards Health & Life Sciences Journalism prize for investigations into embryo IQ screening and UK Biobank data-security breaches.
“While drugs can flow around the body, the brain has a special barrier that stops that from happening. So getting any treatment into the brain is itself a massive hurdle.”
