Dr Kathryn Austin is a specialist obstetrician with subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine, who obtained her medical degree at the University of Newcastle. Prior to medicine she qualified as a pharmacist and worked at MotherSafe NSW, advising on medication safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding. She served as President of the Australian Medical Association (NSW), the state's peak medical body representing doctors in New South Wales, before stepping down in early 2026. During her presidency she was a prominent advocate on public hospital funding, medical workforce pressures, and the sustainability of the NSW health system. She previously sat on the Board of the Gidget Foundation, supporting those experiencing perinatal depression and anxiety. She was awarded the AMA NSW President's Award for service to the medical profession before her own term as president.
