Who Louie Horne is

Louie Horne BEM is UNISON's national nursing officer, responsible for promoting and defending the interests of nursing staff for the union, a role she took up in November 2025. A registered adult nurse with more than 25 years of experience, she completed her nursing degree with honours in the Philippines and has worked in the UK since 2000. Before joining UNISON she was senior strategic improvement lead at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, with responsibility for workforce development, health inequalities and digital transformation, and was previously the first Filipino nurse to serve as a Workforce Race Equality Standard clinical research fellow at NHS England. She is chair of the Filipino Senior Nurses Alliance UK and vice president of the Filipino Nurses Association UK. In her public commentary she has argued for safer staffing levels, fair pay for nursing staff, and against immigration policy changes she contends are damaging NHS workforce supply.

“For decades, nurses and midwives from around the world have brought invaluable skills to the NHS. It would be a disaster to lose that contribution to vital services. This exposes the damage being inflicted by the government's unfair and ill-conceived immigration changes. An urgent rethink to these policies is needed.”
