Biography

Prof Paul Garner is Emeritus Professor of Clinical Sciences at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), where he previously directed the Centre for Evidence Synthesis in Global Health and served as Co-ordinating Editor of the Cochrane Infectious Diseases Group from its founding until his retirement from full-time work in July 2022. He is a medical doctor specialising in evidence-based public health and was a founding member of the Cochrane Collaboration. Since contracting COVID-19 in March 2020 and developing long COVID, he has worked extensively on post-viral syndromes, reporting his personal recovery in a widely read BMJ blog series and engaging in public debate about the management of chronic fatigue conditions. He is a trustee of Sense about Science and a member of the Steering Group of the Oslo Chronic Fatigue Network.
