Biography

Rory Deighton is Director of Acute, Emergency and Community Care at the NHS Confederation, leading its Acute Network. He leads a programme that ensures acute members' concerns are effectively represented across media outlets and to government, with the acute team working closely with other parts of the Confederation to bring members together around place-based working and provider collaboration. He has a strong interest in the patient agenda and maintains relationships with National Voices, Healthwatch and the Patients' Association. Before joining the NHS Confederation in July 2018, he served as Director of Healthwatch Kirklees for five years, and subsequently worked as part of the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership. He is regularly quoted in the press on urgent and emergency care pressures, NHS waiting lists, elective care recovery, corridor care, and the relationship between social care capacity and hospital flow.
