Who Dr Varun Warrier is

Dr Varun Warrier is Associate Professor of Neurodevelopmental Research in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Cambridge. His team works on social and genetic factors that influence neurodevelopment and mental health, integrating large-scale genetic, neuroimaging, electronic health record and questionnaire data to understand heterogeneity among mental health conditions and their links to brain structure and function. The group focuses on conditions that emerge during childhood, adolescence and early adulthood, including autism. He completed his PhD at the Department of Psychiatry in Cambridge in 2018 and previously worked as a Research Associate at the Autism Research Centre. He is known for arguing that autism is not one condition but many, and that earlier and later diagnosed autism reflect distinct biological and developmental profiles with different links to co-occurring mental health conditions.
