Who Prof Jonathan Schott is

Professor Jonathan Schott is Professor of Neurology at the Dementia Research Centre, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, and an Honorary Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, UCLH. He trained at St Mary's Hospital Medical School and completed his neurology training at Queen Square and the Royal Free Hospitals, later completing an MD at the Dementia Research Centre using MRI to track Alzheimer's disease progression. His clinical practice and research are centred on dementia, with a focus on early accurate diagnosis, detection of pre-symptomatic Alzheimer's disease, and promoting healthy cognitive ageing. He leads Insight 46, a longitudinal biomarker study of the British 1946 birth cohort, and heads the ADAPT team examining blood-based biomarkers (p-tau217) for Alzheimer's disease in NHS memory clinics as part of the Blood Biomarker Challenge. He was appointed in 2019 as the inaugural Chief Medical Officer of Alzheimer's Research UK and is a publicly active advocate for improving early and equitable dementia diagnosis in the NHS.
