Biography

Kulvant Sandhu is Senior Programme Manager for Unpaid Carers, Personalisation and PEoLC (Personalised End of Life Care) at NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, where she leads system-wide programmes supporting the estimated 250,000 unpaid carers across the West Yorkshire region. She is a Registered Mental Health nurse, Best Interests Assessor, and Queen's Nurse. Before joining the ICB she worked at Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust as Named Nurse for the Mental Capacity Act and Dementia, and served as Chair of the Trust's Race Equality Network from 2018 to 2021. She has argued publicly that unpaid carers are insufficiently recognised and that digital tools, carer contingency planning, and clear statutory rights are essential to sustaining people in their caring roles. She has also drawn attention to the health inequalities faced by unpaid carers, including heightened risks of poverty and poor mental health.
