Dr Mike Prentice is National Director for NHS Resilience at NHS England, with responsibility for emergency preparedness, resilience and response (EPRR) across the health system in England. He trained as a GP in the North East and was a partner in a large practice in Gateshead for 15 years before moving into full-time medical management, holding NHS board-level positions since 1999. He previously served as NHS England's national strategic incident director for Covid-19, before taking on the national emergency planning and incident response portfolio. He submitted multiple witness statements to the UK Covid-19 Inquiry on behalf of NHS England. He has been publicly associated with arguments for investing in specialist training and exercising to ensure ambulance services and other responders can handle complex major incidents, including terrorist attacks and mass-casualty events.
