Biography

Dr Russell Gidney is Chair of the British Dental Association's Welsh General Dental Practice Committee, a position he has held since April 2021 having joined the committee in 2018 and served as lead member of the GDS contract negotiation team. He qualified from Cardiff University in 2002 and has worked in South-East Wales throughout his career, owning Beaufort Park Dental Surgery in Chepstow since 2009. He holds a postgraduate Masters degree in Cosmetic Restorative Dentistry and the Diploma of Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties of the Royal College of Surgeons. He also works as a clinical supervisor at Cardiff Dental School and has been active on the Gwent Local Dental Committee since 2015. He is publicly known for challenging the Welsh Government over the sustainability of NHS dentistry, including criticism of the 2026 GDS contract reform and warnings that untested contractual changes risk driving more practices out of the NHS.
