Biography
Dr Edward Maitland Ball is a hair restoration surgeon and the founder and Medical Director of The Maitland Clinic, based in Portsmouth, Hampshire, which he established in 2015. A Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, his clinical background spans cosmetic medicine, general practice, plastic surgery, microsurgery, and dermatology, and he worked for ten years on the skin cancer surgery team at University Hospital Southampton. He completed a Fellowship in Hair Restoration Surgery in Beverly Hills under Dr Craig L. Ziering, subsequently serving as Clinical Director of Ziering Medical UK before founding his own clinic. His published work has appeared in journals including the British Journal of Plastic Surgery and the British Journal of Dermatology, and he is a Diplomate and examiner for the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. He has been quoted and featured in UK media — including the MailOnline, The Telegraph, The Guardian, and Channel 4 — on topics relating to hair loss, surgical hair restoration techniques, and patient safety standards in the aesthetics sector. The Maitland Clinic has won the Aesthetic Medicine Awards 'Best Hair Restoration Clinic/Practitioner of the Year' in 2022, 2024, and 2025.
