Biography

Dr Janet Barter FFSRH FRCOG is a Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health at Barts Health NHS Trust, where she has worked across the breadth of SRH including contraception, abortion care, menopause, and fertility. She trained in medicine at Sheffield University Medical School and in obstetrics and gynaecology after working in the UK and West Africa, where she identified the importance of women's health. She served as President of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH) — now the College of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (CoSRH) — from September 2022, having previously held roles as Vice President for Specialty, Chair of the Specialty Advisory Committee, and Training Programme Director for SRH across London. During her presidency she chaired the FSRH Hatfield Vision Taskforce, leading an open letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care signed by over 60 organisations, and spoke publicly on contraception access, abortion care policy, and health inequalities in sexual and reproductive health.
