Who Prof Peter Hindmarsh is
Professor Peter Hindmarsh was Professor of Paediatric Endocrinology at University College London and Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), also serving as Divisional Clinical Director for Paediatrics at UCLH. His clinical and research work centred on adrenal disorders, diabetes management using pump technology, and cortisol physiology as it relates to replacement therapies for adrenal insufficiency. He published extensively on hydrocortisone pharmacology and pioneered the use of pump delivery of hydrocortisone to mimic the circadian rhythm of cortisol in conditions such as congenital adrenal hyperplasia. In December 2017 he was named Britain's most inspiring health worker by the Daily Mail Health Heroes award for his work in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes. He relinquished his GMC registration on 14 November 2024, ending a fitness-to-practise investigation without any regulatory finding, following scrutiny of his role as a prosecution expert witness in the Lucy Letby trial.
