The Reform Jersey-backed proposition P.48/2022 (Deputy Tadier) was passed in April 2022, and the Housing Minister produced an options paper (R-165-2022) later that year, constituting the formal 'investigation' Southern's promise referenced. However, progress stalled: a prior £500,000 allocation for the work was almost entirely surrendered as underspend by end of 2023, and by 2025 Housing Minister Sam Mézec stated the empty property tax could not be progressed due to budget constraints. No funding was allocated in the 2026-2029 Budget for tackling empty homes, and the work remained unimplemented by the time Southern's 2022-2026 term ended in June 2026.
