Geoffrey Peter Southern

Geoffrey Southern served as Deputy for St Helier No. 2 district for twenty-one years before standing in 2022 as Deputy for St Helier Central, a seat he held until the end of the 2022–2026 Assembly term.

For the 2022–2026 term, Southern campaigned on economic fairness and housing affordability. He sought to replace Jersey's minimum wage with the living wage before 2026 and to undertake a thorough review of employment law to introduce day-one rights for workers, alongside action on zero-hours contracts and insecure working conditions. On housing, he aimed to further reduce rents in both the public and private sectors, advance shared ownership schemes, and pursue empty property charges to open up the housing market. He also proposed expanding reduced GP fee access to people with chronic illness, children and the elderly, and committed to reducing income tax for low and middle earners while ending the social security cap, measures he argued could raise up to £50 million in additional revenue.

Southern's manifesto identified a long career as a States Deputy, describing twenty-one years of constituency casework and active participation through questions and propositions in the Assembly.
