Sir Mark Boleat was first elected to the States Assembly in June 2026 as a Senator, representing the island-wide constituency. Since 2026 he has served simultaneously as Minister for Planning and Regulation, Assistant Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning, and Assistant Minister for the Environment.
His 2026 campaign centred on addressing the cost of living, housing, healthcare and confidence in government. Among his more specific pledges, he committed to strengthening Jersey's economic competitiveness and reducing administrative burdens on businesses, supporting development that is balanced with environmental protection, increasing the availability of affordable housing with particular emphasis on younger Islanders, promoting a high-quality education system, and supporting delivery of the new hospital alongside a greater focus on preventative healthcare. He also pledged to preserve Jersey's parish system and natural environment and to work collaboratively across the Assembly, businesses and the voluntary sector.
Before entering the States Assembly, Boleat drew on a career spanning senior executive and chair roles in public bodies, charities and businesses in both Jersey and the United Kingdom. He has described this experience as giving him a practical understanding of how decisions are made and delivered, and he cited it as a basis for his commitment to competent, focused government capable of protecting essential services while managing public finances responsibly.
