Biography

Professor Marios Adamou OBE is a Consultant Psychiatrist in neurodevelopmental psychiatry (ADHD and ASD) at South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, where he is also Head of Specialist Service Development, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Huddersfield. He is a founding member of the UK Adult ADHD Network (UKAAN), established in March 2009 to provide support, education, research and training for mental health professionals working with adults with ADHD within the NHS. He co-developed an AI-based tool for diagnosing adult ADHD with the University of Huddersfield, which received a £140,290 award from the NHS AI Lab and demonstrated approximately 95% accuracy in clinical trials. He was appointed OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours 2021 for services to mental health. He has been quoted in UK press coverage — including in relation to a 2025 Channel 4 documentary — arguing that poor-quality private ADHD assessments and the growth of ADHD as an identity rather than a disorder are placing pressure on NHS services and clinicians. He holds positions at the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has previously held NHS board-level roles across several Clinical Commissioning Groups.
