Biography
Dr Sophie Shotter is a GMC-registered aesthetic doctor and, since 1 September 2025, President of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine (BCAM), the registered-charity membership body for doctors and dentists practising aesthetic medicine in the UK. She qualified from the University of Leeds with an MBChB and a BSc (Hons) in Genetics in Relation to Medicine in 2008, subsequently spending six years in the NHS working in anaesthetics and intensive care before moving into aesthetics. She founded Illuminate Skin Clinics in Kings Hill, Kent, in 2014 and also practises in Harley Street, London. In her presidential role she leads BCAM's work on clinical standards, training, and patient safety, and has been a prominent public voice calling for statutory regulation of non-surgical cosmetic procedures, including welcoming the government's proposed licensing scheme announced in late 2025. She was named Medical Practitioner of the Year at the Aesthetics Awards 2023.
“Your facial skin is very clear, very smooth. When we look at your hands, you've got a bit more of that laxity going on. You don't have pigmentation. You're not covered in sunspots. But the veins and tendons testify to a loss of volume. The extreme end of that is one day we get what people describe as 'old lady hands' – significant volume loss with skin fragility overlying it.”
