Deterred by the cost of care, by health service

Share of Guernsey adults who said cost stopped them using each health service in the last 12 months, 2023. Adult dentistry deters the most at 26.8%, the GP 22.3%. Islander-wide, 41.6% still faced a cost barrier to some service, down from 47.3% in 2018.

Read this with the chart: From the Wellbeing Survey's repeated question, "has cost stopped you using this service in the last 12 months?". Only adult dentist and adult GP carry a 2018 comparator; mental-health support is a new question and physiotherapy, chiropody and optician were re-scoped between waves, so those bars show 2023 only and must not be trended. The 41.6% islander-wide barrier figure is the complement of the 58.4% who said cost had not stopped them using any service.
