Long-term care fund income against spending, 2021 to 2026 (£m)
Income and spending of the Long-term Care Insurance Fund from 2021 to 2026, before investment returns. Income is above spending in every year, but the surplus fell from £15.1m in 2024 to £9.5m in the 2026 budget as spending caught up.
Read this with the chart: Before investment returns. From the Committee for Employment & Social Security's policy letters; 2025 is a forecast and 2026 a budget. The Budget 2027 report puts the 2027 surplus at £9.6m. A surplus that shrinks is not a fund that runs dry: the fund still holds £212m of net assets. The axis starts at zero.
