Who pays for a Guernsey college place
Pupils at Guernsey's three grant-aided colleges by who paid the fees, from 2019/20 to 2024/25. The States funded 52 Special Place Holders a year, selected on the 11-plus and blind to household income; that scheme closed to new entrants in September 2019. The total roll barely moved. Fee-paying places rose from 864 to 1,217.
Read this with the chart: Two series side by side, not a stack: the taller bar in each pair is the fee-paying roll and the shorter one the States-funded places inside the same total. Transcribed from Figures 1, 3, 4 and 5 of the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture's 2025 policy letter, which publishes them as images with no data layer; the totals reconcile against the roll and per-pupil grant figures the letter states in its prose. A stable overall share does not establish that the same children attend: the Year 6 assessments that would allow a before-and-after comparison of college entrants only began in 2022.
