Four Freedom of Information responses, cross-checked against a 13,466-row Trafficworx activity log - Guernsey publishes none of this as a standing dataset, so this is pulled together here for the first time.
Annual cost of road closures, 2021–2025
2025 also carried roughly £300k in Traffic & Highway Services admin/staffing costs on top of this figure - not broken out by year for other years, under the FOI response’s own exemption 2.9 (commercially sensitive). Trafficworx permits issued (all types) ran 2021: 2,304, 2022: 2,424, 2023: 2,887, 2024: 2,781, 2025: 2,725. Of 2,798 permits issued in 2025, 1,252 required an actual road closure.

2020 had only 2 rows in the log (data collection effectively starts 2021) and is omitted. 2026’s lighter bar (see legend) is a partial year - the export stops on 23 July 2026 - and should not be read as a down-year against 2024/2025. Not every permit closes a road
All years combined (2021 to 23 July 2026). A road closure is the single largest category, but well under two-thirds of all Trafficworx activity.
