How many people live in Guernsey today, and is the number rising or falling?
The statistic not collated
A current population figure. The last one is for 31 December 2023.
Why the question cannot be answered
The Electronic Census and the quarterly population bulletin stopped after the December 2023 figure, published 29 October 2024. In July 2025 the States said the historical outward-migration figures had been under-stated, so the last published total is itself probably too high, by up to 3%. No restart date has been given. Guernsey has not held a traditional census since 29 April 2001; the electronic census that replaced it is the series now suspended.
“the next publication could include a downward revision of the total population of up to 3% - a larger revision than is normal.”
States of Guernsey, "Work continues to restore quarterly publications of population, employment and earnings figures", 28 July 2025
The nearest thing that exists
Quarterly Population, Employment and Earnings Bulletin, population 64,781
31 December 2023, published 29 October 2024
The data that would answer it
Resumption of the quarterly bulletin with the revised back-series and a published revisions note, so that every per-head figure on the island (GDP, crime, housing) has a denominator again.
