ZOE

Personalised nutrition & gut-health science app

Nutrition & metabolic healthWearables & consumer diagnostics

ZOE is a UK-founded health-tech company that combines at-home biological testing of the gut microbiome, blood sugar and blood fat responses with an app that gives members personalised food guidance.

The read

ZOE was founded by Jonathan Wolf, Professor Tim Spector (King's College London) and George Hadjigeorgiou, growing out of the PREDICT nutritional-science studies. It sells an at-home test kit that measures gut microbiome composition, blood sugar and blood fat responses, then uses an app-based membership to turn that data into personalised food scores and meal guidance.

In 2025 the company said it was pushing to sequence one million gut microbiome profiles to train its GutEngine AI model, building on the 300,000 profiles already collected.

The Bridgehead view

ZOE's real asset isn't the test kit, it's the compounding biological dataset — 300,000+ microbiome profiles could eventually become an IP-licensing or research business independent of the direct-to-consumer subscription arm, which UK press has reported is still loss-making.
