BIOGRAPHY

Daya Thayan is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kingsley Healthcare Group, a family-owned care provider with its head office in Lowestoft, Suffolk. Kingsley says it runs 45 care homes caring for about 2,500 residents, with nearly 3,500 staff.

Thayan and his wife Sumi started the business in September 1999 from the conservatory of their home in Gerrards Cross, and bought their first care home, Lilac Lodge in Oulton Broad, that year. Kirkley Manor and Brooke House followed in 2003 and Allonsfield House in 2004. By the end of 2019 the group had reached carehome.co.uk's list of top 20 large care home groups and had launched Kingsley Home Care, and in his New Year message Thayan described a 2025 vision aimed at doubling the size of the group. Kingsley later added learning disability services. Between 2024 and 2026 it opened or acquired homes in Norfolk, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Dorset and Merseyside, among others.

Sumi Thayan is co-founder and co-chief operating officer. Their sons Cameron and Ewan are executive directors of the group.

Thayan has been recognised repeatedly by HealthInvestor. He was placed 14th in the Power 50 in November 2016, a rise of one place on the previous year, and won the Readers' Award at the 2022 Power 50. Kingsley also reported that Glassdoor rated him one of the UK's top 10 CEOs for his leadership and support for staff during the Covid pandemic. Speaking at the group's 2024 awards, he told colleagues: "We are a family business, and you are part of this family."
