SMALL HOME CARE GROUP/3 BRANCHES
John Rennison
Chief Executive Officer, 1st Homecare
John Rennison is owner and CEO of 1st Homecare, a home care group in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire, and a former Homecare Association Chair.
BIOGRAPHY
John Rennison is Owner and Chief Executive Officer of 1st Homecare, a home care group with offices in Leighton Buzzard, Oxford and Kings Langley and a live-in care service, covering Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and part of Buckinghamshire. According to the Homecare Association, most of its clients pay for their own care, and four local authorities also commission work from it. He is also a non-executive director of the Homecare Association, the UK membership body for home care providers, where he was Chair from October 2024 to October 2025 and is now Treasurer.
Rennison began as a chartered accountant. LinkedIn lists him as an assistant manager at PwC in Bristol from 1983, after a geography degree at Edinburgh University. He then moved through a series of finance roles: financial analyst at Inchcape, finance director at Electrocomponents in Madrid, and European Controller at Ogilvy & Mather from 1992 to 1998. In 2000 he became CEO of African Media Entertainment, a Johannesburg-listed group of 20 subsidiaries. Later roles included finance director of the marketing group FCB, interim chief financial officer at the wealth manager Bestinvest, and chief financial officer of Haverstock Healthcare, a consortium of 27 Camden GP practices, from December 2011 to August 2013.
In 2012 John and Annabella Rennison took over 1st Homecare, which had been running in Leighton Buzzard since 2010. Rennison has been a director of 1st Homecare Solutions Ltd since 10 May 2012. The group then grew by acquiring existing agencies in Oxford and Kings Langley, and he became a director of 1st Homecare (Oxford) Ltd in February 2016. LinkedIn lists Cranfield School of Management's Business Growth Programme (2017) in his education. The group has been named in the homecare.co.uk Top 20 Small Home Care Groups for seven consecutive years to 2026, and its own site says it won Most Outstanding Regional Home Care Group in the Gold category at the Home Care Awards 2025.
Rennison joined the Homecare Association board in October 2021 and served as Treasurer before being elected Chair on 17 October 2024. In a February 2024 interview with Home Care Insight he said he had stopped wanting local authority work, calling the low-price approach a "race to the bottom", and was focusing on private clients. In March 2024 he told The Guardian that the Home Office had asked 1st Homecare for more than 230 documents before it could recruit one overseas worker who was already in the country.
