BIOGRAPHY

Margaret Sawers is the founder and Managing Director of Northcare, a family-run operator of care homes in the Central Belt of Scotland. The company's own website says Northcare grew out of her experience of looking for care for relatives, and that she has led it for over 34 years. It describes her as personally knowing every resident and employee.

Companies House shows her as a director and company secretary of Northcare (Scotland) Ltd since 14 February 1992, and as a director of later group companies including Northcare (Executive Suites) Limited (2020), Northcare (Cleveden) Ltd (October 2024) and Northcare (South Queensferry) Ltd (June 2025). She was described as a director of the company when The Scotsman reported in March 2012 that Northcare had secured £5m of funding from RBS to open a 72-bed home in Cathcart, Glasgow. The firm then ran a home in Blantyre and two in East Kilbride, employed about 300 people, and expected to reach about 380 with the new home.

The group's website says William and Katie Sawers, described as the next generation of her family, are now directors who lead growth, design and people development.
