BIOGRAPHY
Arinesarajah Ragumoorthy, known as Ragu, founded Nellsar Care Homes with his wife and, according to the group's history page, remains its chief executive. Nellsar is family-owned and runs 13 care homes in Kent, Surrey and Essex with room for up to 600 residents. Day-to-day operations are led by Martin Barrett, the Managing Director.
Ragumoorthy studied at the University of Peradeniya (1966 to 1970, per his LinkedIn profile) and worked as a civil engineer before moving into care. The couple bought their first care home in 1988. It was extended to take up to eight residents, and he left his job to find and build further homes while his wife recruited the care teams. By 2004 Nellsar had six homes across Kent and London and more than 250 residents. Their two daughters, Nella and Sarah, joined in finance and HR, and the company name combines their first names.
Companies House shows him as a director of Nellsar Limited since 6 July 1999, and as a director of Nellsar Holdings Limited since 17 March 2026, so he is still on the board of the group's operating and holding companies. Martin Barrett joined the Nellsar Limited board in May 2022. No interviews, bylines, award citations or care association roles in his own name have been found.
