BIOGRAPHY
Cillian Hennessey is Chief Executive Officer of Meallmore, the family-owned care home group based in Inverness. Meallmore opened its first home in 1987 at Meallmore Lodge in Daviot, near Inverness. The group's website now counts thirty care homes across Scotland and more than two thousand colleagues.
Hennessey began as a property professional. He took a BSc (Hons) in Property Investment and Development at Ulster University (2002 to 2006), then worked as a chartered and investment surveyor at Lisney from 2006 to 2010. His work there covered acquisitions, disposals and development sites.
He joined Meallmore in 2010 as area manager for Central West Scotland, became a director in 2012 and took the commercial director role in 2017, where he worked on the group's growth and development. In January 2023 he succeeded his uncle, Gerry Hennessey, as managing director. Gerry co-founded the business with his brother Aidan in 1987 and stayed on as chairman. Hennessey now holds the chief executive title. He completed an executive leadership programme at Boston College in 2016 and an MSc in Executive Leadership at Ulster University in 2018.
Meallmore has kept building new homes under his leadership. Kelvinside Manor in Glasgow (48 beds) opened in 2025, and Pitfodels Wood in Aberdeen (65 beds) was due to follow in 2026. In July 2026 the group announced Eaglesham House in Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, a £15 million, 50-bed home planned for spring 2027 that The Scotsman described as its 30th. In 2024 Meallmore set up colleague forums after a staff survey, and Hennessey described a recruitment campaign at home and abroad to rebuild the workforce after the pandemic. HealthInvestor named him a finalist in the Elderly Care category of its 2025 Power List.
