BIOGRAPHY
Martin Rix is Chief Executive of Belong, a not-for-profit organisation in the North West of England that runs eight care villages. Each village offers care, housing and support, with shared facilities such as bistros, hair salons and gyms that are open to the public. Belong also runs homecare from the villages and specialises in dementia care, employing Admiral Nurses in partnership with Dementia UK. Belong announced his appointment in April 2022.
Rix began his career in property consultancy. He studied civil engineering at Loughborough University (MEng, 2000 to 2004) and project management at the University of Reading (MSc, 2004 to 2006), and he is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. LinkedIn lists him as an associate at Davis Langdon from 2004 to 2009 and head of project management at NPS from 2009 to 2012.
In October 2012 he joined Norse Care, the Norfolk care provider, as Strategic Development Director. He became Chief Operating Officer in January 2019 (LinkedIn dates). Belong's biography says he took overall leadership of Norse Care from 2020, with accountability for a portfolio of 36 care homes and housing with care schemes, about 1,600 residents and a similar number of staff.
He moved to Belong in 2022. In 2023 he was elected to the board of the National Care Forum, the membership body for not-for-profit care providers, and Belong announced it in January 2024. Belong's announcement adds that he is part of a global alliance, with partners in Australia and the United States, that promotes small household models for aged care.
Rix speaks at sector events. He chaired the Skills for Care North West CEO and Commissioners Roundtable in February 2025 and spoke at the LaingBuisson Social Care Summit North in Manchester on 13 February 2025.
