Dr Sanjiv Patel is chief executive of Westgate Healthcare, a family-owned care group in London and the Home Counties. He trained as an anaesthetist.
BIOGRAPHY
Dr Sanjiv Patel is chief executive of Westgate Healthcare, a family-owned care group with more than 600 beds across London and the Home Counties. Westgate runs residential, nursing, dementia and rehabilitation services from a head office in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. Patel is also managing director of Mayfield Hospitality, which owns and operates hotels in the UK.
He trained as a doctor at the University of Nottingham (MBBS, 2001) and practised in the NHS as a consultant anaesthetist and intensive care doctor at University College London Hospitals. He served on the council of the Royal College of Anaesthetists from 2009 to 2013, where Spread a Smile says he was one of the youngest board members and led projects on training for junior doctors. He was also a medical adviser on Channel 4's You Are What You Eat. He completed the Saïd Business School's 10,000 Small Businesses programme at Oxford in 2017 and 2018.
Patel moved from the NHS into social care in 2018, according to the Care Management Show; LinkedIn dates his chief executive role at Westgate from April 2017. Companies House records him as a director of several Westgate group companies, the earliest appointments dating from 2003 and 2006. In March 2024 Caring Times reported his plan for two new Hertfordshire homes: a 75-bed home in Borehamwood, scheduled for 2025, and an 80-bed home in Cheshunt, due in summer 2026. HealthInvestor named him a finalist in the One to Watch category of its 2024 Power List.
He chairs the Greater London chapter of YPO. He is a trustee of the children's charity Spread a Smile, which announced his appointment in July 2025, and was a trustee of Noah's Ark Children's Hospice from July 2021 until July 2026 (Companies House). In 2026 he spoke on panels at Knight Frank Healthcare Horizons in March and at the Care Management Show in June.
