Online patient triage (part of Huma)
GP-founded online triage and consultation platform used across thousands of NHS practices, now operating as part of Huma Therapeutics following its 2024 acquisition.
The read
eConsult was developed by GP partners at south-east London's Hurley Group as an online triage and consultation tool, and grew into one of the most widely used patient-access platforms in NHS general practice, with an eTriage product also used in emergency departments and urgent treatment centres.
In October 2024 it was acquired by Huma Therapeutics, though it continues to operate under its own brand and team. Reported scale figures vary between sources (1,800 practices per Huma's acquisition announcement versus 3,000-plus cited on eConsult's own current channels), likely reflecting different counting methods.
The Bridgehead view
eConsult's continuity of brand and team after acquisition is deliberate, and the right call: a GP-founded platform's credibility with practices rests on that clinical origin story, which Huma has every reason to preserve rather than absorb.
